Full Time Avian and Exotics Veterinarian

Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service • Permanent • Brisbane, Queensland, Australia • A$ 73k - A$ 110k / year • 2w ago

Looking to make a difference?

Different patients, different medicine, and a different way of working. At BBEVS, we work exclusively with birds and exotic species. We don't take ourselves too earnestly, but we take our medicine extremely seriously.

Good exotic medicine needs curiosity, clinical reasoning, communication and compassion. As the world's first Fear Free Certified avian and exotics-only veterinary practice, we believe how we practice matters too: reducing fear and stress, working with our patients, and supporting the human at the other end of the carrier.

The job

We're looking for a full-time veterinarian to join us in 2026.

Already a bird and exotics vet? Always secretly wanted to be one? New graduate who knows this is where you want to go? You don't need to arrive knowing it all. Bring curiosity, good communication, a growth mindset and determination. We can teach you the rest.

One important bit: this position starts in 2026. We're very happy to talk to new graduates who are ready to start this year, but we're recruiting for our team this year rather than holding the position for a 2027 commencement.

What we offer

Five weeks of annual leave. Not four. Because having a great job is not a substitute for having a life outside it. You'll also have:

· Dedicated consult nurse support

· Structured mentoring, tailored to your experience

· A genuinely interesting avian and exotic caseload

· Excellent nursing and clinical support

· Above-award salary

· One week of CPD leave per year

· CPD allowance

· VIN and AVA membership

· Fear Free accreditation

· Employee Assistance Program

· And, yes, because we think it's important enough to mention twice: five weeks of annual leave

You belong here if you:

· Get genuinely interested when a case doesn't read the textbook.

· Like figuring things out and want to keep learning

· Care about how your patient experiences veterinary care.

· Think communication is part of good medicine, not an optional extra.

· Want nurses properly involved in patient care.

· Want to be an active member of a great team

· Are currently eligible for veterinary registration and residency in Australia

We're looking for someone who wants more than their next veterinary job. We'd love to find someone who can see themselves becoming part of BBEVS, developing their skills here and helping shape what this slightly unusual little veterinary practice becomes next.
