About Us

RSPCA Queensland has been improving the lives of animals across the state for nearly 140 years. As one of Queensland’s leading animal welfare organisations, our work extends well beyond sheltering and rehoming animals. We provide veterinary care, rescue and rehabilitation, investigate animal welfare concerns, support people and their pets, care for native wildlife and work with communities to create lasting improvements in animal welfare. Each year, more than 42,000 animals come into our care.

Our purpose is simple: we exist for animals to live better lives. Our work is guided by the belief that meaningful change comes not only from helping animals when they are in need, but also from addressing the causes of animal welfare problems through education, community support, advocacy, veterinary care and enforcement. Our values are to show compassion, lead the way, act with courage and seek positive outcomes.

Veterinary professionals are an important part of this work. At our Wacol Animal Care Campus in Brisbane, our veterinary services include both domestic and wildlife hospitals, alongside animal sheltering, adoption and other welfare services. Our Wildlife Hospital operates around the clock and treats tens of thousands of native animals each year, while our broader veterinary teams care for animals coming into RSPCA Queensland through a wide range of circumstances.

Working in this environment can offer veterinary nurses and other animal care professionals exposure to work that is closely connected with RSPCA Queensland’s wider animal welfare mission. Teams work alongside veterinarians, animal care staff, volunteers and other departments, with opportunities to contribute not only to individual patient care but also to the broader systems and services that support animals across the organisation.

RSPCA Queensland places a strong focus on its people as well as the animals in its care. Its current strategic plan includes developing leadership capability, strengthening staff and volunteer engagement, maintaining safe systems of work and building an accountable, connected workforce. The organisation also invests in learning and development, with opportunities for employees to build their skills and develop their careers over time.

Employee benefits advertised by RSPCA Queensland include paid parental leave, flexible working arrangements where applicable, access to counselling and mental health services, employee discounts and a range of pet-related benefits. Current recruitment material also highlights opportunities for professional development and career progression within the organisation.

For people who want their veterinary or animal care career to contribute to something broader than day-to-day clinical work, RSPCA Queensland offers the chance to become part of an organisation whose work spans veterinary care, wildlife, rescue, rehabilitation, animal welfare enforcement, education and community support. Across these areas, staff and volunteers share a common goal: improving the lives of animals and creating better welfare outcomes throughout Queensland.
