Some veterinary careers stay mostly inside the clinic. This one combines hands-on veterinary
practice with the planning, leadership and judgement required to deliver complex One Health
programs across remote Australia.
AMRRIC is looking for an experienced veterinarian who can move confidently between clinical
practice and program management. From our Darwin base, you’ll manage NT/QLD veterinary
and education programs end-to-end, then remain active as a clinician when those programs are
delivered in remote communities.

About AMRRIC
Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities (AMRRIC) is a national not-
for-profit organisation based on Larrakia Land in Darwin.
We work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve the
health and wellbeing of companion animals, people and communities. Guided by a One Health
approach, our work includes veterinary programs, education and training, research and
advocacy.
You will join a small, committed team where your work directly supports meaningful outcomes
across rural and remote Indigenous communities.
About the role:
The Regional Program Manager – NT/QLD is responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery
and coordination of AMRRIC’s One Health animal management programs across the region.
Based at AMRRIC Head Office in Darwin when not on program delivery, you’ll report to the Head
of Operations and work closely with the Senior Head of Regional Programs, veterinary staff, vet
nurses, project teams, contractors, volunteers and community stakeholders.
During peak periods, typically March to October, remote program travel may be up to 10–15
days per month.
What you’ll do:
You’ll combine program management, clinical leadership and hands-on veterinary delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
• scope, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate veterinary and education programs using
AMRRIC’s One Health model;
• manage end-to-end program delivery, including logistics, budgets, grant requirements,
data, risk and operational priorities;
• attend remote programs as the principal veterinarian, leading a clinical team undertaking
surgical desexing and management of ad hoc surgical and medical cases, delivering
parasite control and other preventative health strategies;
• manage compliance with AMRRIC’s clinical governance standards and maintain high
standards of animal welfare, clinical practice and program compliance;
• provide people leadership and manage the performance and development of assigned vet
nurse staff, while mentoring veterinary staff, volunteers and contractors;
• identify operational risks and improvement opportunities and implement practical
solutions;
• build and maintain respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
communities, partners and other stakeholders;
• prepare and contribute to program data, monitoring, funding acquittals and organisational
reporting; and
• represent AMRRIC professionally at community meetings, public forums and conferences
where appropriate.

What you’ll bring
• a recognised veterinary qualification and the professional registration required to practise
as a veterinarian;
• 3–5 years’ clinical veterinary experience, including demonstrated sole-charge competency in routine surgery, safe field anaesthesia and triage of medical and emergency cases;
• at least 2–3 years’ demonstrated project or program management experience;
• experience managing competing priorities, budgets, data, risk and continuous improvement;
• strong leadership, mentoring, problem-solving and professional judgement;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds;
• sound Microsoft 365 and data-management capability; and
• a genuine commitment to animal health and wellbeing and to culturally responsive work alongside remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Previous experience delivering veterinary services through community programs, shelters or a not-for-profit environment will be well regarded, but remote veterinary experience is not essential.
Essential requirements:
You must:
• hold an unrestricted driver’s licence and be able to drive manual vehicles;
• be willing and able to travel and stay in remote communities for program delivery;
• hold, or be willing to obtain, a current First Aid Certificate;
• be able to obtain the required National Police Criminal History Check and Working with Children clearances; and
• be able to be based in Darwin for the duration of the appointment.
