Position Overview
As an experienced Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral part of our clinical team, providing high-quality nursing care and support to both our patients and clients.
You will initially work alongside our Head Nurse before taking over the Head Nurse position while she is on maternity leave. You will also assist our veterinarians in delivering exceptional service and help ensure the clinic operates smoothly.
Hours are flexible, from three days per week to full-time.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Provide hands-on nursing care to animals during surgeries, medical treatments and routine check-ups, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Assisting Veterinarians: Work closely with veterinarians during clinical procedures, including anaesthesia, surgery, diagnostics and client consultations.
- Client Communication: Provide advice to pet owners on general care, treatments and pre- and post-operative care.
- Laboratory Work: Perform routine laboratory tests, including bloodwork, urinalysis and cytology, and assist with preparing samples for external testing.
- Surgical Assistance: Prepare animals for surgery, monitor anaesthesia and provide pre-, peri- and post-operative care.
- Records Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients, including detailed notes on treatments and procedures.
- Reception: Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and assist with booking appointments. Knowledge of veterinary software such as Neo, IDEXX or VetlinkPRO would be beneficial.
- Sterilisation and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all instruments and equipment are properly sterilised and maintained in accordance with clinic protocols and hygiene standards.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with our veterinarians, nurses and administrative staff to create a positive working environment and provide exceptional patient care.
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a Veterinary Nurse in a clinical setting.
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy, medical conditions and treatment options.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures and care plans to pet owners clearly and compassionately.
- Proficiency in veterinary software and patient record management.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.
- A caring and empathetic approach to animals and their owners.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Experience with anaesthesia, surgical assistance and emergency care is highly desirable.
