Healthy Pets Veterinary Clinic

Healthy Pets Veterinary Clinic is an independently owned practice in Castlemaine, around 90 minutes from Melbourne. Established by Dr Bruce Syme in 1998 as a small, one-vet clinic in nearby Muckleford, Healthy Pets has grown into a modern, purpose-built veterinary hospital while retaining the independent thinking and holistic philosophy on which the practice was founded.

We place a strong emphasis on excellent veterinary care, combining modern Western medicine, advanced diagnostics and surgery with a core holistic approach to nutrition and complementary therapies. Rather than focusing only on the immediate problem, we aim to consider each animal’s overall health and wellbeing and use the safest, most effective approach for the individual patient.

Our hospital provides a varied clinical environment, with modern surgical facilities, digital radiography, ultrasound and a comprehensive in-house laboratory. Our work includes routine and preventative care, behavioural and nutritional support, diagnostics, dentistry and surgery, ranging from everyday procedures to cruciate repairs and other more advanced cases. We care for domestic pets and large animals, giving our team exposure to an interesting and diverse caseload.

We value people who want to contribute their knowledge, take responsibility and become genuinely involved in the care of our patients and clients. Our vets and nurses work closely together, with nurses encouraged to participate actively in patient care and use their skills across anaesthesia, surgery, diagnostics, laboratory work, inpatient care and client communication. Every member of our veterinary, nursing, reception and administrative team plays an important part in providing thoughtful care and keeping the hospital running smoothly.

Healthy Pets has a warm, down-to-earth personality and a team with a diverse mix of professional interests and experience. We take our work seriously without losing the individual character that has shaped the practice over many years, assisted by our resident rescue cat and official practice overseer, Siggy.
