Town and Country Veterinary Service is looking for an experienced veterinary nurse to step into a Head Vet Nurse role with our friendly, growing mixed practice in Somerset on Tasmania’s beautiful North West Coast.
We are a family-owned, privately operated three-vet practice, supported by a dedicated, enthusiastic and fun-loving nursing team. We’re looking for an experienced nurse who is ready to take a lead role within the team, providing day-to-day support and guidance while helping to mentor our less experienced staff.
We value collaboration, learning and creating a supportive working environment that reflects our family-oriented culture. Although we are a mixed practice, our nurses are based in the small animal clinic, with some involvement in booking large animal calls and dispensing medications.
Our small animal clinic is well equipped, with an in-house laboratory including VetScan biochemistry, Abaxis haematology, a digital slide scanner and pathology. We also have a BCF Mindray6 ultrasound, an orthopaedic kit with cordless Milwaukee drill, digital x-ray and table with built-in plate, an IM3 dental machine and dental x-ray, and multiple anaesthetic machines with full monitoring equipment.
We’re looking for an experienced vet nurse who feels confident taking on a leadership role within our nursing team. You’ll enjoy supporting your colleagues, sharing your knowledge and providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff. You’ll hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, or an equivalent qualification, and have the clinical experience and confidence needed to step into a Head Vet Nurse position.
This is a full-time role offering a four-day working week. Our clinic operates Monday to Friday, with no weekend clinic hours. After-hours emergency callouts and surgeries are shared between three nurses, with financial support provided for these shifts.
We offer well above award wages, depending on experience, along with four weeks of paid annual leave. We also provide financial support for professional development and access to online continuing education courses, giving our team opportunities to continue learning and developing their skills.
Town and Country Veterinary Service is based in Somerset, a small coastal town on Tasmania’s North West Coast, close to the larger regional centre of Burnie. It’s a wonderful part of Tasmania in which to live and raise a family, with a range of public and private schools available throughout the region.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, North West Tasmania has plenty to offer. Rainforests, Cradle Mountain and Tasmania’s rugged West Coast are all within reach, along with opportunities for bushwalking, fishing, biking and exploring the region’s coastline and countryside. Burnie Airport at nearby Wynyard is around 15 minutes from the clinic, with Melbourne approximately a one-hour flight away.
