Nissen Street Veterinary Surgery has a full-time opportunity for an experienced veterinary nurse keen to fully use their clinical skills and contribute directly to patient outcomes.
The work that makes this role different:
Our varied medical, surgical and hospital caseload gives you the opportunity to understand the cases you are nursing and follow patients through their care. We value nurses who notice changes, share what they see and take pride in helping patients progress.
We are privately owned and locally led. Our clinical team works together around patient needs, with digital radiography, dental imaging, ultrasound and in-house diagnostics supporting our work.
Your role:
Prepare patients, equipment and instruments for surgery and dental procedures; maintain sterilisation and infection-control standards.
Assist with anaesthesia and monitor patients under veterinary direction, including recovery care.
Provide inpatient nursing, record observations and promptly report changes to the treating veterinarian.
Assist with diagnostic sampling, laboratory testing and imaging within training and lawful supervision.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by registered veterinarians.
Support consultations, safe animal handling and client education; maintain clinical records, equipment, stock and clean work areas.
What you will bring:
Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a relevant overseas veterinary nursing qualification, subject to assessment of equivalence where required.
At least two years of relevant veterinary nursing experience.
Confidence in anaesthesia monitoring, surgical support, inpatient nursing and safe animal handling.
Strong communication, reliable documentation and a willingness to ask questions and support colleagues.
EzyVet and IDEXX experience is desirable.
Working with us:
A four-day working week, with one in four Saturdays.
Support from experienced veterinarians and senior nurses, with opportunities to build advanced nursing and leadership skills.
A CPD allowance, at least two paid team-building events each year and cost-price veterinary services for your pets.
After-hours optional and paid overtime as per the relevant Award.
Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. Suitably qualified international applicants are also welcome. Employer sponsorship may be pursued for an eligible candidate, subject to all relevant approvals; no visa or permanent residency outcome is guaranteed.
