Nissen Street Vet Surgery

About Us

Nissen Street Veterinary Surgery is a locally owned veterinary practice in Urraween, Hervey Bay, caring for pets across the Fraser Coast. We're a busy practice with a varied medical and surgical caseload, a close-working team and a genuine interest in getting to the bottom of challenging cases.

The practice is owned by Dr Candice Loft, who began her veterinary career in Hervey Bay and purchased Nissen Street Veterinary Surgery in 2021. Candice has particular interests in complex medical cases, soft-tissue surgery and canine reproduction, which help shape the clinical work undertaken at the practice.

Our days are varied. Alongside routine consultations, vaccinations and preventative healthcare, we manage medical investigations, dentistry, surgery and hospitalised patients. We also work with a visiting orthopaedic surgeon for procedures including fracture repairs and cruciate surgery. There's plenty of opportunity for our team to use their skills, share knowledge and become involved in different aspects of patient care.

We have digital radiography, ultrasound, dental imaging and in-house laboratory equipment, along with dedicated areas for surgical preparation and recovery. Having these facilities available allows us to investigate cases thoroughly and manage a broad range of medical and surgical conditions within the practice.

We're a privately owned clinic, and our vets, nurses and support staff work closely together. Everyone has an important part to play, from welcoming clients and helping them understand their pets' needs to investigating complex cases, performing procedures and caring for patients during their recovery. We value good communication, practical teamwork and people who take an interest in what's happening beyond their own immediate responsibilities.

One of the things that makes working here interesting is the variety of patients and cases we see. Our team is involved in everything from everyday pet healthcare to more challenging medical and surgical work, with opportunities to learn from one another and build confidence across different areas of practice.

We also have a particular interest in canine reproduction, providing reproductive services for local breeders alongside our general veterinary work. It's another aspect of the practice that adds variety to our clinical caseload and gives the team experience beyond the usual day-to-day consultations.
