About Us
Vets on Waiheke is a full-service companion animal clinic in Ostend on beautiful Waiheke Island, around 40 minutes by ferry from central Auckland. Working on an island brings its own character to veterinary practice, with strong connections to the local community and the opportunity to really get to know the animals and people we care for.
We’re a friendly, down-to-earth team who value teamwork, a positive attitude and compassionate, individualised care. Our team brings together people from a variety of backgrounds, and we enjoy the combination of an interesting veterinary workload and the more relaxed lifestyle that comes with living and working on Waiheke.
While we’re an island practice, there’s plenty happening clinically. We provide general medicine and preventative healthcare alongside dentistry, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine and a range of soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures. The clinic also provides the island’s after-hours emergency veterinary service, which means we’re equipped to manage patients locally when urgent care is needed.
Our facilities include three consultation rooms, a recently renovated treatment area, two operating theatres with adjoining scrub and recovery areas, in-house radiography and pathology facilities. We also operate Waiheke’s only registered cattery, where cats are monitored by our veterinary and nursing team.
There are opportunities to become involved in different aspects of practice life beyond the traditional hospital setting too, including our mobile veterinary service and puppy preschool. We’re also a BESTPRACTICE® accredited clinic through the New Zealand Veterinary Association.
