About Us
Quartz Veterinary Ultrasound is an independent, referral-only diagnostic ultrasound service based in Bendigo, Central Victoria. Established in 2020 by veterinarian and experienced sonographer Dr Pia Hayat, we provide ultrasound services for veterinary practices across Bendigo and regional Victoria, with our referral network now extending into New South Wales.
We’re a small and growing team working from our clinic in East Bendigo. Rather than providing general veterinary care, Quartz works alongside referring veterinarians as an additional diagnostic service. Patients remain under the care of their regular veterinarian, with our team performing the ultrasound procedure and providing a detailed report to help guide their ongoing diagnosis and treatment.
Our ultrasound work covers a broad range of cases, including abdominal, thoracic and cardiac imaging, pregnancy diagnosis and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates. Dr Pia has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in sonology, including advanced echocardiography and Doppler, soft tissue, musculoskeletal and cervical ultrasound.
For veterinary nurses, working at Quartz provides an opportunity to use existing nursing skills in a different clinical environment and develop experience in diagnostic imaging. Nurses assist with patient preparation and handling during ultrasound procedures, recording measurements and monitoring patients following procedures, while also helping the service run smoothly through communication with referring veterinary teams.
As a small team, we value people who work well with others and are comfortable contributing across different areas of the service. Training in ultrasound and diagnostic imaging can be provided, making Quartz an interesting option for veterinary professionals looking to broaden their experience beyond traditional general practice.
