About Us
JCUVet is James Cook University’s veterinary teaching hospital, based on the JCU Townsville campus and playing an important role in the University’s veterinary education and clinical training. As a controlled entity of JCU, the hospital combines real-world veterinary practice with the education of future veterinary professionals, while providing general practice, emergency, referral and specialist care to animals throughout Townsville and North Queensland.
This connection with James Cook University is central to what makes JCUVet different. JCU’s Veterinary Science program has a strong focus on practical, hands-on education, preparing graduates to work across diverse communities, species and environments. Students gain clinical experience through JCUVet as part of that education, applying their university learning in a functioning veterinary hospital under the guidance of experienced clinicians.
For the people working within JCUVet, this creates an environment where clinical care and education naturally sit alongside one another. Veterinarians, veterinary nurses, specialists, interns and students contribute to a hospital where sharing knowledge, discussing cases and developing clinical capability are part of everyday life.
