Gawler Veterinary Services

About Us

Gawler Veterinary Services is a long-established veterinary practice caring for pets and their families across Gawler, Smithfield and the surrounding communities. With clinics in Willaston and Smithfield, the practice has been part of the local community for generations and combines that experience with modern veterinary facilities and a strong focus on making visits as calm and comfortable as possible for patients and their owners.

The practice is owned and led by Principal Veterinarian Dr Tony Atyeo, who began working at the original Gawler clinic after graduating from the University of Sydney in 1972. Over his career, Tony has also mentored veterinary students and graduates from universities across Australia and New Zealand. Today, the wider team includes veterinarians, experienced veterinary nurses and support staff working across both clinics.

The Gawler clinic in Willaston is a Ceva Certified Calm Clinic, with a separate cat waiting area and cat consultation room and a team trained in low-stress handling. The practice provides a broad range of veterinary care for dogs, cats and exotic pets, including preventative healthcare, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, hospital care, dentistry, digital radiography, in-house pathology and weight management.

Veterinary nursing at Gawler Veterinary Services is varied and hands-on. Nurses are involved across surgical and anaesthetic nursing, hospital care, dentistry and consultations, with team members bringing experience from areas including surgery, emergency practice, rehabilitation, wildlife care and consult nursing. This variety gives nurses the opportunity to use a broad range of clinical skills as part of their day-to-day work.

The practice also has a strong connection with its local community. Paws in a Pod, a not-for-profit kitten adoption program run from the Gawler clinic by Veterinary Nurse Manager Casey-Lee Fadden, rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes unwanted and abandoned kittens. Kittens receive veterinary care, desexing, vaccinations and socialisation before being carefully matched with new homes.

Gawler Veterinary Services has a warm, down-to-earth team with a mix of long-standing and newer staff members. For veterinary nurses and support staff who enjoy varied clinical work, being part of an established local practice and working alongside colleagues with a wide range of experience, it offers an interesting and welcoming place to continue building a career in veterinary care.
