Balmain Veterinary Hospital is an independently owned small animal hospital in Sydney’s Inner West, with a history of caring for pets in the local community spanning more than 50 years. Based in Rozelle and serving Balmain and surrounding areas, the hospital has grown into a sizeable multi-vet practice providing a broad range of medical, surgical and preventative veterinary care.
The hospital sees a varied general practice caseload, with services including medicine, emergency care during opening hours, dentistry, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, radiology, ultrasound, echocardiography and senior pet care. The team also has access to comprehensive in-house laboratory facilities, allowing many blood, urine and pathology investigations to be performed within the hospital. The practice has particular experience caring for greyhounds and brachycephalic dogs, alongside its wider small animal caseload.
Veterinary nurses are part of a large clinical team that includes veterinarians, nurses, receptionists, animal attendants and managers. The size and scope of the hospital provide exposure to interesting cases and the opportunity for experienced nurses to use their skills across different areas of patient care, including anaesthesia, surgery and general hospital nursing.
Professional development is an important part of the culture at Balmain Veterinary Hospital. The practice actively encourages staff to continue developing both professionally and personally and places a strong emphasis on creating healthy working relationships within the team. Continuing education is supported, while regular social activities give staff opportunities to spend time together outside the day-to-day clinical environment.
The hospital is owned by veterinarians who also work within the practice. Its owners have undertaken management and leadership training through The Lincoln Institute and place a deliberate focus on maintaining a positive workplace culture. Team members are encouraged to keep developing their skills, contribute to the hospital and take ownership of their role, while working collaboratively with colleagues.
